LA TRAVIATA
Cincinnati Opera, Cincinnati
June | 2024
"In the pit, the orchestra’s playing was richly rewarding under Passerini’s leadership. The preludes to Acts 1 and 3 had the kind of refined beauty that drew you instantly into the story. Passerini’s pacing was intelligent, and he had the gift of staying with every note of each singer, never once overpowering them. Phrasing by the strings was beautifully nuanced, and the dynamic peaks of the music were thrilling."

"The Cincinnati Opera Chorus and Cincinnati Symphony were in spectacular form under the leadership of conductor Lorenzo Passerini, making his U.S. operatic conducting debut. His was some of the most impassioned and invigorating conducting I have seen in an opera performance in years, and it seemed clear musicians and audience members loved his music making from the first bar of the Act 1 prelude all the way to the last notes of Act 3 as Violetta succumbed to her illness."
